You could be eating cloned meat
Full story: Care2

Since Dolly the sheep was first cloned by scientists in 1996, the animal agriculture industry has developed a cruel and disturbing clone production project, which has been carried out almost completely undetected by mainstream media. Are you a climate vegan?
Full story: Rabble.ca

"Climate Vegan" [climatevegan.org] is a term recently coined by a group of Toronto activists whose aim is to join the dots of forest destruction, water usage, pollution, and greenhouse gas emissions to the cow in the china shop - animal agriculture. Human consumption of meat and dairy products is a major driver of climate change, but there is a major lack of public awareness and understanding of the link between eating meat and dairy and climate change.   Read more...

U.S. state of California's drought - pictures explain the cause

California [is suffering a severe drought but is]ignoring the elephant in the room when it comes to water usage - or rather, the cow. Gov. Jerry Brown issued an executive order in response to the state's years-long drought, and now, all urban water users will have to reduce their usage by 25 per cent. Unfortunately, this plan exempts the biggest water users in the state: Big Ag.   Read more...

When humans declared war on fish
Full story: New York Times

Taken collectively, the rise of postwar fishing technology meant that the global reported catch rose from some 15 million metric tons at war's end to 85 million metric tons today - the equivalent, in weight, of the entire human population at the turn of the 20th century, removed from the sea each and every year. Growing signs of exhaustion and failure in global fisheries made humans reconsider the totality of their assault.   Read more...

8-year-old vegan calls for Meatless Mondays in California
Full story: MyFox

8-Year old vegan, Genesis Butler spoke before the [her local] City Council to persuade members to adopt Meatless Mondays. She read a heartfelt statement that frankly included a lot of technical, non 8 year old language. Her best moment came when she told the council that most kids in her school like to eat her vegan lunch because the school lunches "are nasty." She also told the council that she's scared of the drought [in California] and that we could save more water eschewing meat than shortening showers. [Video at the link.]   Read more...

As revolutions go, the one Beyoncé and Jay Z are planning - to make the world go vegan - got off to a start somewhat subdued. Beyoncé and Jay Z obviously have a few things going on already, so why this foray into the often-lampooned world of the celebrity lifestyle guru and veganism? In an email, Beyoncé wrote "at first it's the little things I noticed: I had more energy... a noticeable glow to my skin without having to deprive myself of carbs ... I even slept better."   Read more...

Tofu is taking Over Australia, so is the United States next?
Full story: Care2

It's a big step for tofu, and a small step for humankind. Well, if you're in Australia. Tofu is now sitting with the big boys - lean meat, protein, fish and eggs - on Australia's national healthy eating pyramid; dairy alternatives, like soy milk, have also found a spot on the pyramid. I know this seems like a small victory, but the meat and dairy industries fight really hard to keep these alternatives off the pyramid. So is there a chance that we could soon be seeing tofu and soy as recommended staples of the American diet?   Read more...
